North Korea in Campaign Series: Vietnam
The logical progress of the Campaign Series Vietnam game was to include the Korean conflict. Originally it was intended to be a Downloadable Content (DLC) expansion, but since the passing of Berto, CS Legion has decided to forego the DLC route and offer continual updates to the Campaign Series games that will offer additional content.
Considering this, the pending Campaign Series Vietnam 1.40 UPDATE that is scheduled for January will include the North Korean nation for use in the organization editor and in the game. The North Koreans have been painstakingly built over the past year to have comprehensive order of battles that span from 1948 to 1985, the modern theatre standards.
This means that users will be able to create Korean War scenarios using North Korea with the various nations that are already included in Campaign Series Vietnam, including South Korea, China and the United States.
It will also be possible to create hypothetical Korean War scenarios as the order of battles expand completely from 1948-1985. These were created from a variety of sources including of war interviews, CIA reports, US Army summary reports, various journals and books.
Certain time frames were easier to find information than others. The details for the various order of battles for the Korean War in the early 1950’s was quite easy to find, and the organizational changes are broken down into various months as the war progressed and structures changed based on the situation on the ground.
Post war, there were numerous organizational changes that spanned from the 1950’s through the 1980’s. As you progress through the various decades, you will note the regiments as they changed structure and weapon systems. There were numerous indigenous systems that were developed in North Korea, in particular Armoured Personnel Carriers and Self-Propelled Artillery.
You will also note the slow mechanization of the North Korean forces into brigade sized that were eventually organized into special task forces. By the time the 1980’s rolled around, these mechanized groups would be the forces that were intended to exploit any breakthrough that the frontline infantry divisions had successfully achieved.
The order of battles also includes the various Special Corps forces that were destined to operate in South Korea to attack rear areas including assembly areas and supply depots.
You will see their structures development from their initial creation and eventual expansion into numerous specialties.
There is a lot to look at in the organization editor when the January UPDATE is released, I recommend you take a gander and let your imagination wander with scenario design potential and possibilities!
Thank you for interest and stay tuned for more Campaign Series News!

Hi Guys
This is really good news. Guess we will need new terrain tiles for Korea as well. Also While we will already have the US, South Koreans, French and Australians in the game it would also help if the British could be ported access as well for Korean War scenarios.
On the scenario front quite apart from converting the scenarios from the JTS Korean War mod the WDS “Korea 85” game will be a good resource for scenario designers for work with.
That’s a neat suggestion, Ian! The next update, tentatively scheduled for January, might be too soon to introduce the British force structure in Korea, but perhaps it could be included in the one after that.
Great question, Ian!
Additional UN Forces will be added in the future, there are currently other priorities at the moment, but they will eventually get in there.
I would also like to rebuild the UK for the Cold War and after that’s done, they will likely be ported to Vietnam for the Korean War.
Hope that helps!
Any chance we’ll see additional UN forces added to expand the Korean War? If I recall, there was a JT Campaign Series Korean War add-on released some years ago that included them.
Thanks.
Great question, Gavin!

Exiting stuff, really looking forward to it, thanks.
Thank you, George!
