A Must-Watch for New and Experienced Players!

Example of Play Campaign Series Video Tutorial

If you’re looking to get a solid grasp of the game’s mechanics or just want to refine your skills, I highly recommend checking out these Bootcamp video tutorials. They cover everything from movement and combat basics to advanced tactics like helicopter operations, artillery, and event-driven gameplay. Whether you’re new or a veteran, these scenarios provide a great hands-on learning experience.

Here they are:

In Bootcamp 1 (two videos), you will command Company A/4/503rd-173rd Airborne as they advance toward an airfield near Dak To 2. The scenario introduces key gameplay mechanics, including movement, firing, assaulting, and handling variable objectives:

Additionally, you will learn how to respond to civilians and Viet Cong activity while navigating the game’s user interface and in-game messaging.

In Bootcamp 2, you will learn essential logistics and support operations, including loading/unloading vehicles, accepting reinforcements, and constructing a Firebase:

The scenario also introduces engineering tasks, artillery, and airstrikes while showcasing the transition between day and night. Strategic positioning is key, with the Firebase being built in specific hex locations.

In Bootcamp 3, you will command Companies A and B of the 4/503rd-173rd Airborne in a mission to clear the mountains south of Dak To II Airfield:

This scenario introduces helicopter operations, including landing zones and refueling, while also covering tunnels and more intense combat engagements. Mastering these mechanics will prepare you for complex battlefield maneuvers and coordinated assaults.

In Bootcamp 4, you will apply everything learned in the previous tutorials while discovering how Event Points can influence the outcome of a scenario:

This scenario also introduces On-map Aircraft and Riverine units, expanding your tactical options. Mastering these elements will enhance your ability to adapt and strategize in complex battlefield situations.

A huge thanks to Example of Play for their excellent detail and commentary in making these videos – their insights really help bring the scenarios to life.

Vietnam community forum at Matrix Games

Any questions or comments, please visit us at Campaign Series: Vietnam Forum at Matrix Games. While we try to answer any post there as soon as possible, there’s also a plenty of fellow players out there.

As for the game play it self, there’s the After Action Reports subforum as well, with first games logged in. Feel free to add yours there, too. They don’t need to be head-to-head games, battling the computer opponent is often an intriguing story as well!

Do visit the Scenario Design and Modding subforum for both tips, tricks, and guidelines as how to mod, but to see what community mods the other players have already published there.

There’s a good few Play-by-email clubs out there, including The Blitz and the Wargamer’s Club. You can also post at the Matrix Opponent Wanted subforum to find an opponent there. Links to the two beforementioned clubs are also there. Do have a look!
