Greetings, grognards!

We’re happy to announce the availability of a new Public Beta for John Tiller’s Campaign Series. This version addresses two major issues:

  • The white screen bug caused by a Windows update in Spring 2025
  • An overlay conflict with the NVIDIA App that still persists

For the first issue, we received a code snippet from Matrix Tech Support that should resolve the problem. It primarily affected older setups—typically laptops without a dedicated graphics card. While recent Windows driver updates seem to have mitigated the issue, we figured it’s better to be safe than sorry.

The second issue involved the NVIDIA App’s overlay. When the NVIDIA Overlay was toggled ON, the game window became distorted—but only for Rising Sun. This appears to have stemmed from a namespace conflict with the game engine executable, . We’ve now renamed it to , which seems to have resolved the issue permanently.

Compiling and building this new version was no small feat. Although we had the source code, it was originally developed using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008—a fifteen-year-old environment. We quickly learned that upgrading to a modern version of Visual Studio would be a major undertaking. Deprecated interfaces, evolving C++ standards… it would require significant recoding. For now, we’re not planning to release new JTCS versions, but we’re relieved to know that if another major issue arises, we at least have the code and can compile it ourselves.

Below is the current changelog. If all goes well, the official 2.05 release with no new features added should be out sometime in September .
